What, we have a blog?

Hello! Is anyone there?

In this day and age of instant information, social media, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, sometimes we forget that life is more than a hastag, or a 30 second YouTube video. Sometimes there is a story that can't be told in a tweet.  A blog seems a bit old fashioned. Does anyone have time to write one? Does anyone have time to read one? We have a Blog, but we have kinda forgotten about it. It is said, one of the signs of old age is forgetfulness.  Well hell, we are OLD! 40 years old to be exact. HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY TO US!

Bob Singer, a former accountant who "gave it all up" in 1979 ,opened Windsurfing Unlimited in Bethesda Maryland. Shorty thereafter  Bob merged with another shop to open Windsurfing Unlimited in Annapolis.  Many years later, Bob took over the day to day operations of a shop called East of Maui in Dewey Beach, and as the say, the rest was history.

The Bethesda store has long since closed. Windsurfing Unlimited in Annapolis changed its name to East of Maui. Mark Bandy and Mark Saunders have owned the Annapolis location since 2003. Bob Singer along with Alfred Dupont still own  the Dewey Beach location.

We have seen incredible changes in the last 40 years. We have seen windsurfing change from plastic boards with wooden booms to carbon fiber rocket ships with foil wings attached to the bottom. We have seen snowboarding grow from an obscure backhill sport to Olympic podiums and beyond. We have seen products and fads come and go. We have kids of our customers now bringing in their kids. So cool. We have seen the internet change how people shop. Some of it good. Some of it bad. Yes, we are working on improving our online experience. Yes you can buy from us online, and your business will be very much much appreciated. Truth be told, we still like doing business the old fashion way, face to face,  with a smile, a thank you, with product expertise, and last but not least, passion. Come on in, pull up a chair, talk story with us. Shop local.  You can call us old, and we will take that as a complement. Cheers!  Here is to the next 40 years!
